Published 23.03.2015

Over 5.000 visually impaired and other persons with a print disability have received 450.000 talking books and 400.000 talking newspapers in the last ten years via the Pratsam system. Pratsam celebrates 10 years on March 23rd.

Since the launch of the first player customized for the elderly visually impaired, Pratsam Box, the company has in cooperation with interest organizations developed several talking book players such as Pratsam Reader, Pratsam Reader Web and Pratsam Mobile. In the spring of 2015 Pratsam Reader App will be launched, available for modern mobile phones and tablets.

Pratsam also delivers complete systems for the management of talking books, from speech synthesis production to administration of users, players and content in custom made systems for internet distribution. An important part of the Pratsam system is DAISY-support, a collection of international standards for accessible digital talking books and newspapers.

Pratsam would like to thank all partners in the important work that has been done under these ten years which has given the visually impaired and other persons with print disabilities access to more information.

-            There is still a lot of work to be done towards an equal society. Pratsams vision is to provide the best modern technology tools to achieve this goal, today and in the future, says Pratsam CEO Jonas Storholm.

Pratsam wants to thank Norra Österbottens svenska synskadade, Österbottens Tidning, Huvudstadsregionens taltidningsförening, The Federation of Swedish Speaking Visually Impaired in Finland, Ålands synskadade, Celia Library, Kolibre, The Swedish Talking Newspaper Association in Finland, Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired, Tekes - the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, ELY-centre in Ostrobothnia, Jakobstad Region Development Company Concordia, Jakobstads Företagarförening and the international DAISY Consortium for a fruitful collaboration and hopes to meet new challenges together also in the future, developing better assistive tools.
